The world is filled with millions of die hard video game fans.  When two gamers fall in love, there’s no better way to tie the knot than to have a video game themed wedding.

When planning a wedding that is centered around your love for video games, there are numerous different ways to tie in your favorite video games as well as your favorite video game characters. By following the trends listed below, your wedding is sure to fulfill your Final Fantasy.

Mario Themed Wedding

It’s almost impossible to discuss the world of video games without a nod to one of the true classics – the Mario Brothers.

Mario is one of the best known video game characters. Easily recognizable to gamers and non-gamers alike, including Mario in your wedding is a sure fire way to spice up your special day.

Super Mario, Mario Kart, Mario Odyssey, you name it and you can turn it into the wedding of your dreams. Think of a cake topper that is Mario inspired with Princess Peach. Wedding invitations with a cheesy “she picked the right castle” quote. Think about making the ring box a question block from Super Mario.

When trying to plan colors for the wedding, think about how bridesmaids or best men will play off each other. Go with red dresses with blue accents for the women then do a green and white tuxedo combination for the men to resemble Mario and Luigi. Have as much fun with the wedding planning as the Goomba characters have when they are in the way.

Other Classic Characters

While Mario may be the modern classic we all know and love, there are a few other characters everyone knows and loves. Borrow color combinations and use the characters as wedding toppers or centerpieces. No matter if your guests are seasoned gamers or haven’t picked up a controller in years, some characters stand the test of time.

The most iconic characters in video game history include:

  • Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Link
  • Tetris Blocks
  • Lara Croft
  • Pikatchu
  • Kirby

Decoration Ideas

Trying to figure out a good set up? Decorations can be tricky but with a video game set up your wedding can become a serious victory.

The bride and groom chairs can be labeled in numerous different ways such as “My hero” and “My Princess” or even “Player 1” and “Player 2”. Wedding shoes can cause arguments depending on how you feel about formal shoes versus comfort. But when planning a video game themed wedding what better way to show up than in shoes decorated with your favorite video game themes and characters.

Thinking about doing goodie bags for your guests? Fill the bag with chocolate coins and stars wrapped in gold foil.  If you and your spouse are Pokemon fans then add a pokeball sugar cookie to the mix. Photo booths have become a popular addition to weddings. Make yours one to remember by including game inspired disguises and embellishments.

Keep the theme going through everything. Naming the tables at your wedding after different locations in your favorite video games is sure to give people a laugh. Choose your plates, napkins and other table accents with a specific game in mind.  Mario fans, for example, could decorate in blues, reds and greens.  Bonus points if you  feature Piranha Plants in the centerpiece!

Incorporating Games in the Wedding

Are you and your spouse rock band fans? Try incorporating a rock band match against your partner with the song of your choice and may the best one win! You could even add some family members into the mix to make a great show.

Another way to have your guests included in your love for video games is adding a video game setup in the wedding and even go as far as finding an arcade game to rent. Who can turn down a game of PacMan? If you and your partner want to make the wedding budget friendly just go ahead and use your own system!

Weddings are all about reflecting the love story of the couple. While video games are sometimes dismissed as childish hobbies, the truth is that more and more adults are embracing and celebrating their love of digital entertainment. So if you’re a hard core gamer and you’re ready to tie the knot – show how you’ve bonded over a love of side quests, high scores and friendly competition!
